Servo Feeds

Rowe manufactures its Press Mounted Digital Electronic AC Servo Driven Roll Feeds in both a two (2) and four (4) roll design with a zero backlash gear box driving upper and lower rolls providing the most consistent feeding available.  The feed is driven by a high performance maintenance-free brushless AC servo motor coupled through the gear box to precision ground, matte chrome plated, Timken steel, full width feed rolls.  Driving upper and lower rolls, mounted with anti-friction bearings, provides better material control, resulting in greater accuracy and repeatability while insuring durability with extended life.

Feeds are available with a choice of “state-of-the-art” AC servo positioning drives, Indramat or Reliance.  Both are proven in the field for years of reliable operation.  User friendly menu prompting and function keys eliminate complicated system programming.  Part length, from 0.005" to 999.999" can be programmed.  Single stroke and "feed-and-fire" modes allow for long feed lengths in blanking operations or special applications.  The feed provides momentary contact closure to signal the press at the end of the feed cycle.  The feed control can accept downloading of  feed parameters from companies such as Data Instruments, Link Systems, Cieco or a Main Frame Computer.  Outputs include:  Feed Complete, Batch Complete, Feed Error and Program Run w/ no error

AC Servo Roll Feeders w/ Pull-thru Straighteners

Rowe Machinery & Manufacturing (RMM) manufactures the Digital Electronic AC Servo Driven Roll Feed With Pull-Through Straightener in a two roll design with a zero backlash gear box driving upper and lower rolls providing the most consistent feeding available.  The feed is driven by a high performance, maintenance-free, brushless, AC servo motor coupled through the gear box to precision ground, matte chrome plated, Timken steel, full width feed rolls.  Driving upper and lower rolls, mounted with anti-friction bearings, provides better material control, resulting in greater accuracy and repeatability while insuring durability with extended life.

A five (5) roll pull-through straightener is mounted at the entry of the roll feed, creating a compact, economical feeder/straightener combination system.  The low inertia straightening rolls are anti-friction bearing mounted, minimizing work requirements of the pull-through straightener.  For quick set-up, the straightener features independent entry and exit bank adjustment of the upper head.  This combination unit is ideally suited for stamping operations where space and time are at a premium.

“B”, & “C” Series Straighteners

Rowe’s “B” & "C" Series Straightening Machines are designed to remove curvature (coil set) and minimal crossbow from coiled stock.  Depending on the model, the straightener has eleven (11) or thirteen (13) rolls, all with a pair of pneumatic exit pinch rolls and either a pair of pneumatic entry pinch rolls, or a set of four (4) coil breaker rolls.  The four lower straightening rolls, entry and exit pinch rolls are all power driven.  All rolls are hardened, ground and mounted in anti-friction bearings.

All upper straightening rolls are contained within a bank-adjustable, common bearing housing.  Entry and/or exit side adjustments may be performed separately or together to achieve proper head settings for the rated materials.  Dial indicators are furnished for precise positioning of straightener roll depth settings.

The straightener is equipped with a standard AC variable frequency drive, which provides variable feed rates from 10-160 fpm.  Constant torque throughout this range provides a smooth start and minimizes shock loads on the driven equipment.  Used in conjunction with the ultrasonic loop control, the straightener rolls may be timed to run continuously. This permits very close control of the slack loop and eliminates roll marking on stock due to the "start-and-stop" motion of the material through the straightener.

Three- Arm “Easy Load” Stock Reels
4000 to 10000 Series

Rowe provides stock reels with the best in I.D. support and payoff control.  The “Easy Load" reel mandrels are equipped with fabricated steel mandrel caps and manual expansion as standard.  Mandrels are expanded and contracted mechanically by a load end mounted integral crank handle driving a threaded pull rod.  Reel mandrel link type expansion provides a standard ID range from 17" to 21".  A coil positioning scale is mounted in a machined pocket on an expansion pad of each mandrel to provide quick accurate positioning.  For ease of loading and mandrel expansion into the ID of the coil, the coil should be supported.  A set of six (6) heavy duty machined fabricated steel coil keepers with hand knob locking screws are provided with each reel mandrel.  Keepers and expansion arms are black oxide to prevent paint chip contamination and provide corrosion resistance.

(3) Arm “Easy Load” Stock Reel
Rowe offers four types of systems for these reels:
  • P:     Plain reels are arranged for pull-off operation by having the mandrel equipped with a pneumatic drag brake with line regulator adjustment to provide a constant back tension during the pull-off operation.
  • DSJ:   The driven spindle jog drive reel is arranged for pull-off operation with the mandrel driven by a hydraulic motor for threading material from the mandrel to the next machine in line.  The mandrel is equipped with an adjustable air brake for different weight coils.
  • DSL:    Driven spindle loop control reels are arranged for slack payoff operation with mandrels driven at a constant speed by an AC motor coupled through an air clutch.  Material payoff is controlled by the use of an actuator (dancer) arm (or (2) probe loop control for a double reel)  for on/off control of the mandrel drive during payoff.
  • DSV:     The driven spindle variable speed reel is arranged for slack loop payoff operation with the mandrel driven by a AC Motor coupled through a AC variable frequency drive and controlled with standard ultrasonic loop control.  Jogging controls for threading are also provided.

Four- Arm Stock Reels
7500 to 50000 Series

Rowe Coil Reels provide the best in ID support and payoff control.  Four mandrel segments achieve better ID grip, minimizing damage to the coil inner wraps and giving greater mechanical life.

The hydraulic expansion type reel mandrel is equipped with heavy-duty full radius mandrel caps and power expansion as standard.  The mandrel is expanded and contracted by a hydraulic cylinder driving a pull rod.  The mandrel utilizes a sliding wedge expansion (or slipper link type on 7,500 & 10,000 lb. models) to achieve a mandrel diameter range from 19" to 24 1/2"

The electric expansion type  reel mandrel is equipped with electric powered expansion as standard.  Mandrel is expanded and contracted by an electric motor and clutch assembly turning an acme threaded bronze nut through a threaded pull rod.  The mandrel utilizes a sliding wedge expansion style to achieve a mandrel diameter range from 19" to 24 1/2"  A set of four (4) coil keepers is provided with each reel.

A set of four (4) coil keepers is provided with each reel.  A set of six (6) heavy duty machined fabricated steel coil keepers with hand knob locking screws are provided with each reel mandrel.  Keepers and expansion arms are black oxide to prevent paint chip contamination and provide corrosion resistance.

Listed below are the two types of drive systems we offer for these reels.

  • DSJ:  The driven spindle jog drive reel is arranged for pull-off operation with the mandrel driven by a hydraulic motor for threading material from the mandrel to the next machine in line.  The mandrel is equipped with an adjustable air brake for different weight coils.
  • DSV:   The driven spindle variable speed reel is arranged for slack loop payoff operation with the mandrel driven by a AC Motor coupled through a AC open loop vector drive and controlled with standard ultrasonic loop control.  Jogging controls for threading are also provided.
